Public Liability Insurance

It is always a good idea to have a public liability insurance in place if you have a business that generates a lot of foot traffic, or if your business has a brick and mortar component (a store or clients’ area). Customers and clients can be notorious for the outrageous claims that they can make if they feel that they have been in any way injured or aggrieved in a business establishment. This insurance will ensure that you have a buffer in between you and any claims made by customers in the event that an accident happens inside your establishment involving a customer.

One of the most contentious parts of trying to get a public liability insurance is how much coverage a business needs in order for the policy to be truly effective in its protection of the business owner. It is not unheard of to have a policy in place that costs upwards of AU $1,000,000. It may sound like overkill but if a business is suddenly deluged by multiple claims from different irate clients then you will see how convenient it is to just have it ready in case there are sudden complaints.

Before you choose which public liability insurance you want to use, look at the coverage being offered by the different insurance companies first. Make sure to get a insurance policy that offers maximum cover, so you won’t have to experience a day when some accident happens in your business and you are not covered. But be prudent though, there is no need for you to be protected against damage from cars if your store is located at the third floor of a shopping centre.
